Homegrown startup Chek Technologies took center stage at this year’s Geeks on a Beach (GOAB) conference in Mactan as co-founders Ellieken D. Lim and Christiansen Hermosilla unveiled PLATEAU, the company’s new organizational intelligence platform designed to help businesses work smarter, faster, and more efficiently.

Presented before an audience of investors, founders, and key stakeholders in the Philippine tech community, PLATEAU highlighted how Cebu-based startups are gaining traction in building globally relevant solutions.

The three-day conference, held at JPark Island Resort Hotel, gathered hundreds of entrepreneurs, investors, creatives, and government leaders. Now on its eighth run since 2013, GOAB has become a landmark event for the country’s innovation ecosystem.

Chek co-founder Ellieken D. Lim with Leslie D. Lim, CEO of LDL Group of Companies, the early backer of Chek Technologies.

“This year’s GOAB is not just about showcasing technology and design. It’s about resilience, rebuilding, and how the Philippine startup community can help shape an ethical, sustainable, and brighter future for humanity,” said Dave Overton, founder and CEO of Symph, which organizes the event.

Government agencies also underscored their support for the startup sector. The Department of Information and Communication Technology (DICT) cited the National Broadband Program and the eGovPH app, which now has over 13 million users, as key enablers of digital innovation.

The Department of Science and Technology (DOST) and Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) likewise stressed programs to bridge research and commercialization gaps and expand mentorship.

Beyond technology, GOAB spotlighted grassroots innovation in healthcare, creative industries, and music, featuring initiatives such as Learning Board, Creative Club, Door to Asia, and September Fever.

Cebu’s role as a startup hub was further strengthened through Zero Ten Park’s new partnership with U.S.-based accelerator Gener8tor, opening doors for local founders to tap into global networks.

“GOAB is where collaboration occurs. It’s a place where resilience and creativity meet opportunity. And in 2025, it will once again serve as the platform through which the Philippines connects to the world,” Overton said.
